Made me think of Hogwarts.
This is taken from the Crown Magazine (PDF):
Billy McCracken worked in the Harland & Wolff shipyards, formany years the largest employer in Northern Ireland, and the abiding symbol of Belfast’s industrial heritage. Whilst the labour force on the Queen’s Island site is now only a fraction of what it once was, the shipyard’s towering yellow cranes, Samson and Goliath are as significant a landmark to Belfast as say, the Harbour Bridge or the Opera House would be to Sydney.
It was this sense of place and history which inspired renowned local artist Rita Duffy. When she came across Billy McCracken’s discarded Harland & Wolff works coat one day she decided to paint it. Notice, if you will the characteristic H&W logo on the breast pocket. Whilst the jacket is hanging on a hangar, notice how the arms of the coat give the impression that it is being worn.
What does it all mean? Only Rita knows, and she’ll be delighted to explain all to those who call to her studio off Belfast’s Donegall Square. In the meantime, the best place to ponder these mysteries is in the foyer of the Europa Hotel, where McCracken’s Jacket by Rita Duffy awaits your inspection!
